Notes on a Scandal: Barbara, a curmudgeonly high school teacher, helps Sheba, the flighty new art teacher, when she's caught in a bind. Sheba is constantly in need of help, and since Barbara enjoys feeling needed by her, they grow closer, and a strange and unhealthy friendship develops.

Morvern Callar: After her boyfriend's suicide, a supermarket worker and her best friend hit the road for Ibiza. The journey prompts a series of internal and external transformations for Morvern.

This impressive, raw drama about a group of young women who manage to connect at a very vulnerable time in their lives was a standout at the 2021 Berlinale.

I wanted to start this off with a bang and so I bring you...a double bill of GIRLFRIENDS (1978) directed by Claudia Weill and FRANCE HA (2012) directed by Noah Baumbach. Both are excellent New York films about best friends making important and "adult" life choices that deeply impact their friendship. Not to be missed!
